A good Chi-Lel teacher is someone with a good heart. A mother holding and loving her baby is emitting loving chi, so the baby grows faster and happier. With a loving heart, students can respond faster and better.
How deep is a mother's love for her ailing child? At the Center, we saw a mother bind her paralysed child to a tree trunk and silently emit chi to him. For forty days, another mother motivated her deaf son by accompanying him doing wall squatting 1,500 times a day in addition to their normal 8-hour Chi-Lel routine. The mother recounted with tears of joy the moment when she heard her child respond to her calling by replying "Mama."
In Chi Lel, we measure love by one wall squatting, one cycle of fa chi, one word of kindness, one drop of sweat, and one drop of tear at a time.

Second China Tour... Another Success Story |
|
Fourteen American Chi-Lel Qigong instructor-trainees successfully completed their two-week training at our home base--Huaxia Zhineng Qigong Center, last month. It was our second and final trip this year. Pang LaoShi welcomed us with his usual warm smile and encouraged us to work hard to bring the healing art back to our country. He was delighted to know Chi Lel is gaining momentum in the United States, judging by the frequency and the number of Americans coming.
The trip was a life-changing experience for all of us as we immersed ourselves in this loving chi-field with thousands of other Chi-Lel believers. We listened to many heartwarming stories of recovery and love. One such story was told by Teacher Chang. Teacher Chang became blind fifteen years ago and no medicine could help her. With nowhere to turn, she tried Chi Lel. Her husband patiently held her hands and taught her one movement at a time. After eighteen months of uninterrupted Chi-Lel practice, she was able to see again. To repay what Chi Lel had given her, she and her husband returned voluntarily to the Center to nurture others for little pay. That was eight years ago and the couple is still serving the sick with much loving tender care today.
We all hope that the seed which the Center has planted in us will grow into trees and eventually a whole forest. Let's set up of a goal for the next ten years to have one million Americans practice Chi Lel everyday. How many Americans brush their teeth everyday? One hundred million? Everyone, because they know it keeps the dentist away. How many Americans practice Chi Lel? Five to ten thousand. Why so few? Because very few people know that practicing Chi Lel everyday keeps the doctor away. But this is about to change as streams of Americans visit the Center, bringing the spirit and healing art of Chi Lel home.

100-Day Gong Success Stories |
Regina Ann Telech
Butler, PA |
I am writing to inform you that I have completed my gong of 100 days!
I have never stuck with anything else in my life except my meditation practice and I have missed days with that, but I have really enjoyed my Chi Lel.
As a R.N. and someone who really believes that the healing process and recovery are so much more than Western medicine offers us, I have gained a lot from this regular practice.
It was not easy and sometimes I really wanted to forget about it but I didn't. I am planning on continuing the practice for at least 15-20 minutes a day and I am spreading the words.

Today is a very exciting day for me: I've just completed my 100 consecutive days of Chi-Lel Qigong, and I want to take the opportunity to tell you what a wonderful effect these exercises have had on me.
My energy level has increased very noticeably. My symptons of chronic fatigue syndrome are appearing less and less. My whole upper body seems much stronger and healthier and there is a definite improvement in muscle tone. Even my thighs are much stronger. I cannot imagine I'll ever stop doing my Chi-Lel Qigong.
The twoday workshop at the LAX Hilton was a very beneficial experience. It made me understand how important it is to do the movements correctly. And I want to thank you for the excellent training and your caring instruction and advice.
Thanks again for making these lifegiving exercises available here. I am sure they will sweep the country.

Give Yourself
a Star Every Day |
Dody Carter, Houston, TX |
On July 7th I completed my first 100 days of Chi Lel and am now working toward 200 days. Truthfully, on some days it was hard to do the Chi Lel. When your body hurts and you feel awful--all you want to do is lie down and stay there. To help my motivation I printed a 100-day calendar from the computer and bought some colored stars. I hung the calendar where I would see it every day. Each day I gave myself a star after finishing the exercises. Silly kid stuff, but seeing the stars add up was gratifying. I'm feeling much better than when I started doing Chi Lel in March after attending your workshop. The cumulative effects of Chi Lel must be experienced to be believed.

Skepticism was my middle name when I considered signing up to repeat the Chi-Lel workshop at the end of June. Would I learn anything new? Was I wasting my money? I knew I would receive benefits from sitting in the La-Chi circle (because I had a lot of energy after the workshop in March!)--so I decided to attend the workshop. Surprise, surprise!!! I knew the basic movements, so this time I was able to relax and assimilate many details that I missed during the first workshop. Learning something new takes a lot of concentration and often many details are missed or not heard. Both Luke and Frank corrected my form and that greatly improved the amount of chi I was feeling and absorbing. The chi was there before, but after the corrections, during the second workshop, it was much stronger. I highly recommend attending more than one Chi-Lel workshop.

I Am Not Alone! |
Karen Whalen, Marblehead, MA |
When I got home the night of the second workshop day I excitedly called my elderly parents to tell them how wonderful and worthwhile Chi Lel had been. After my calls I went in to prepare dinner. You may remember it was hot in Boston those two days, and I think all the extra chi made me feel hot too. The landlord of the very old house in which I have my apartment does not like to spend money on it, so many things are in need of repair.

When I went to open the kitchen window from the bottom to get some air, I needed to push and pull it up, using my right hand on the bottom of the lower window, and my left hand on top of the lower window. Just as I was trying to jig the bottom window up, the top window gave way and came crashing down like a guillotine on my left hand, which was now stuck between the top and the bottom windows. I thought the window had crushed and broken my hand! But I couldn't get my left hand out to check, for it was wedged between the two heavy wooden windows! I was at that moment in real pain. I tried to use my free right hand to lift the window up and release my left hand, but I couldn't. I didn't have the strength, and the wooden side frames of the windows are broken and loose, so nothing goes straight up and down, the windows kind of zigzag up in the frame. I couldn't reach the phone to call for help either. All at once I felt so helpless. I thought: "I'm all alone! Who can help me? No one will even know I'm stuck here!"
All of a sudden, Luke's voice came to me as if he were right in the room! Just as he had only hours before in the workshop, in a commanding sort of way, he said, "Remember, you are not alone. You are never alone.
Healing Circle Heals |
Ronald Miller
New York City |
I was delighted by the Chi-Lel Qigong retreat. My health during the retreat took a positive jump during the practice and healing circle. My jaw and ear pain was relieved. My thyroid felt as if lightning bolts were striking and sticking into it during the healing circle. Normally I have cloudy urine, caused by high uric acid levels. On the second day of the retreat my urine ran almost clear.
I experienced many moments of enlightenment and healing after this retreat. I am thankful and indebted to Chi Lel. Thank you Luke and Frank for what you have brought to our shores. I have found Chi Lel to be a way to access large amounts of chi characterized by a loving and healing energy field which returns one to normal health and mental balance.

You have 10 million people in China and others here in America practicing Chi-Lel Qigong right at this moment. You have the strength of 10 million behind you. You are not alone!" And as if helped by 10 million people, I immediately lifted the window free! I was shocked it gave way so quickly and effortlessly. It just sort of popped open! Of course my hand hurt like crazy and I started to say mentally: "hurt, hurt, hurt." Then Luke's voice came and commanded again: "No! use the other 'H-word'--Hou La, Hou La, Hou La ! And do La Chi." Who was I to argue with Luke? I did as I was told and instantly the pain stopped! The hand which had been purple and depressed to the bone, turned pink and resumed its undented shape. It never hurt again. I was totally amazed. What a way to begin a 100-day gong!
My Mom, who is her mid-seventies and recovering from a stroke she had a couple of years ago, was my first student. It's good to have someone whom you want to help, because then you are more likely to set a good example and not miss a day of practice yourself. You can encourage each other. Another trick we found was to read 101 Miracles a story at a time (instead of greedily consuming the whole book at once). We read a new student's story each day. That way if you were thinking you weren't in the mood to do Chi Lel, you have time to reflect on those people in China and their lives. And you have a moment to pause and think: "If I had that tumor, or I had that heart condition, I bet I would do my Chi Lel. Well, if I want to stay healthy maybe I'd better do it now." It's another good way to trick yourself, if you're "not in the mood."
But more and more we are in the mood because we both feel so good. I've particularly noticed a strong reaction in my Mom. Emotionally she's in a much better mood, much happier. She seems to have much more energy and zest for life. And she seems to notice beauty in her surroundings more and to point out the beautiful things in the day to everyone. Mentally she is much sharper. She noticed all these changes in herself and so had I.
Thank you so very much for everything. I could write on and on, particularly about the experience of the powerful full moon Chi-Lel practice... Thank you for the love, wellness, and happiness Chi Lel has brought to our family.

China Experiences |
Debra Weisenbeurger Lipetz, Columbus, OH |
On June 4, 1996 my life was drastically changed in a remarkably positive way. I was one of twelve student instructors fortunate to have the opportunity to study at the Chi-Lel Qigong hospital and training center in China. Our objective was to observe and participate "hands-on" in the life-changing effects of Chi-Lel Qigong. I understand the difficulty of accepting some of the stories and concepts I will share with you. I literally saw and personally experienced miracle after miracle after miracle!
Upon entering the hospital grounds at Fongrun, the energy was noticeably stimulatingperhaps a measure of our own enthusiasm. We were led to an opening ceremony in which we were honored to participate in the induction of new student/patients entering the hospital. I must point out that, once someone enters the Chi- Lel hospital,
"... I literally saw and personally experienced miracle after miracle!" |

he is no longer considered a patient, but rather a student. Ceremonial music blared through loudspeakers as we entered the crowd of 3,000 or so students. All rose clapping, acknowledging our presence with warm smiles. Much to our surprise, we were led to the front of the students and onto the stage prepared for the teachers and healers of the Center. I could not believe we were seated alongside the respected teachersan honor far surpassing our worth. Looking into the eyes of the students in wheelchairs, many sick and diseased, I realized the intensity of our commitment and responsibility. I knew from that point on my life was changed.
We later met with those teachers who work daily with small children in order to appreciate their patience and to understand their techniques for involving children in self-healing. As we approached this area, mothers and fathers scurried to gather their children together to welcome us with a special song. My gaze passed from one eager face to another; large, dark innocent eyes penetrated me, connecting emotionally. The children ranged in age from a few months to about six years of age. All had cerebral palsy. One young mother stepped towards me whispering to her young son "LaoShi, LaoShi," LaoShi translates as teacher, a highly respected title by which Dr. Pang, the founder of Chi Lel Zhineng Qigong, is often fondly referred. This mother kept gesturing to me, constantly comforting the shy, apprehensive toddler she was cuddling. "LaoShi, LaoShi," she repeated again. I suddenly realized I was being coaxed to perform... heal...teach, and help her son. My heart raced; my eyes flooded with tears. Such a great, respectful responsibility... I...we have all accepted! "Accepted" was the key word; now I had to respond. Leaning over the child, I quietly began fa chi, moving energy around his small body. As he squirmed and began to softly cry, I knew my own fears and apprehensions were affecting him. I closed my eyes and concentrated on my training. As I relaxed, the child responded physically and emotionally. When I opened my eyes, he was resting comfortably in his mother's arms. Her eyes thanked me respectfully and I came to an understanding. These children are accustomed to receiving and exchanging chi, openly and eagerly without demands. I gained as much or, perhaps, more insight and chi from this small boy than he did from me. I silently thanked him as we all walked quietly back to our bus.
A few days later, we were participating as a group in the Three Centers Merge Standing method with perhaps two hundred or more students. I was in the stance listening to the sounds surrounding me, aware of the teachers quietly walking through the crowd correcting postures.

I tried to ignore the agonizing pain in my body until I felt I could no longer continue. Then I began noticing sounds around me. A woman beside me was spitting and coughing up something and had been for some time. A lady somewhere behind me was quietly vomiting. Yet they were not complaining and continued. Why? They believed they could overcome their illness! They believed! Does that mean I do not? I struggled with my physical and emotional worth until I too was able to overcome. I became a tall tree bending gently with the wind. My branches reached to the blue sky; my roots were deeply imbedded in the earth. My tan tien became a woodpecker hole where brilliant redheaded birds discovered food. When my ears heard "now slowly raise baihui and straighten legs, I gradually became myself once again. We had been in the ThreeCentersMerge position for close to an hour. Another lesson learned!
Shortly after an intense group session, an attractive Chinese woman approached me. Although I speak no Chinese, I was able to understand that she wanted to speak with my teacher, Luke Chan. I caught Luke's attention. As his gaze shifted from me to this woman there appeared to be no immediate recognitionuntil she began speaking to him. His eyes lit up; he threw his arms around her, and asked her to sit down and share her story.
"I know that through perserverance, belief, discipline, and practice of Chi-Lel Qigong, we can all be more healthy. Personally, my life has been changed emotionally, physically, and spiritually ." |

She explained that she came to the Center in 1993, paralyzed from the chest down. For the last ten years, her husband had gently rolled her body over every two hours to prevent bedsores. Incapable of caring for any of her personal needs, she was basically a vegetable. After five months at the Center, there was no change in her condition; in fact, she had become worse. Nevertheless, her husband continued to practice La Chi and administer Fa Chi to her daily. Luke asked her what had motivated her to continue. She remembered Pang LaoShi saying, "You never know when you may have spontaneous healing." She simply kept believing! Eventually she began to have slight feelings and movements in her fingertips. All the students in her dormitory gathered around her, giving her encouragement and congratulations. Shortly thereafter, she was able to move her whole hand and then her arm, little by little regaining control of her body. Through perserverence, belief, and daily practice, she gradually improved. Soon she was able to sit up and have her husband push her in a wheelchair to actively participate in the group sessions.
In 1995, Luke had videotaped a little girl, about five or six years old, demonstrating the wall stance. He continued to videotape this child as she walked to her grandmother, who was slumped in a wheelchair, and began lovingly administering Fa Chi. This feeblelooking grandmother is today the woman mentioned above. She can now stand upright, proudly beside her husband, and walks with the use of a cane. And, as her husband pointed out, not only is she walking, but all of her internal organs which were previously disfunctioning are now healthy. They both smiled proudly!
These are only a few examples of my experiences in China. Hopefully, you have gained some insight into the importance of Chi-Lel Qigong. To many this may seem like mere hype. That's all right. To those of you who understand, know that just understanding will change your life in some small way. I know that through perserverance, belief, discipline, and practice of Chi-Lel Qigong, we can all be more healthy. Personally, my life has been changed emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Lots of Chi to you all!

Editor's Note: Over the years, Pang Lao-Shi has answered many questions about Chi-Lel Qigong practice through the monthly Chinese magazine, Chi-Lel Qigong Science. We'll translate some of his answers so as to help you better understand your practice. If you have questions, please write to us and we will find a similar question and its answer by Pang Lao-Shi.
1. During a practice session, I felt my body become transparent, become a chi being, and it felt like I could penetrate walls. How should I deal with this if it happens again?
The best reaction is to ignore it and to continue to concentrate on your practice. If you often have this chi-being feeling during practice, isn't it a good thing? Why should you pay attention to whether it could penetrate walls or not? We should start with the basics, and work towards higher levels: try to achieve becoming a chi being during every practice session and further, try to change to a chi being at will. If that happens, your body can change fast and your gongfu (kungfu) can grow faster.
2. When I heal others, I have tingling sensations in my hands. How can I overcome this? This happens because you have not followed the correct Chi-Lel practice. If you follow the correct procedure, your hands shouldn't have these feelings when you are healing others. (Editor: use universal chi instead of your own chi.) Your hands are only the forms, the proxy, the true healing comes from your mind's intent. If your hands have tingling sensations, don't use them anymore. Use your eyes instead, your shen-kwong, your mind's intent to heal.
3. When healing a cancer patient who is taking medicine, should I advise him to continue to take medicine or not?
Chi Lel and HIV |
Jim Vorndran, Dayton, OH |
I am a registered nurse and have been HIV+ for eleven years. During that time, my T4 lymphocytes have gradually but continually declined, from around 600 to a low of 302 in August of 1995. In October of 1996, I began seeing an acupuncturist on a bi-weekly basis. In December I began classes in Soaring Crane Qigong and practiced daily until August of 1996 when I attended my first Chi-Lel Qigong workshop.
During the weekend workshop it was immediately apparent that Chi Lel was a much more physically demanding practice than the prior form of Qigong I had been using. After the workshop, I began practicing "Lift Chi Up and Pour Chi Down" twice a day. In the week that followed, I remember feeling very energetic and unbelievably alive all over my body. Two weeks later, my acupuncturist told me my pulses were greatly improved. After four weeks of practice he told me I could decrease my visits to once a month.
In July of 1996, my viral load was 74,000 copies and my T4 lymphocytes were 478. They have been gradually rising ever since I started the acupuncture and soaring crane Qigong. When my doctor received results of my lab work in September of this year, after a month of practicing Chi Lel, he had the tests redrawn to be sure there was no mistake. The second round of tests were the same as the first. All blood counts and blood chemistry had returned to 'normal' ranges. My T4 lymphocytes had risen to 543. At the end of September, viral load testing was again ordered. It had decreased to 34,000!
It should be noted that I have made no medication or life style changes in the past eighteen months, other than the addition of Qigong and acupuncture. However, it was only after the addition of Chi-Lel Qigong that my viral load decreased approximately 50%. T4 lymphocytes jumped more dramatically than ever, all other lab values returned to normal, and my pulse diagnosis improved dramatically. Above all, I cannot remember having felt better physically or psychologically.
Anyone who would like to contact me regarding my experience of Chi Lel and HIV, may do so via e-mail at , or by regular mail at Marianist Community, 141 Washington Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402.

Whether to take medicne or not should be decided by the patient. If the patient has a firm belief in Chi Lel, he will stop taking drugs. If he has no confidence in Chi Lel, you can't stop him from taking medicine even if you try. Now if there were a drug which could cure cancer, this miracle drug would sweep across the world. Then cancer wouldn't be an incurable illness anymore. But because cancer is incurable, many new drugs are being pushed now. The more new drugs that come out the more indication that they are ineffective. After explaining this to your patient, if he still insists on taking drugs, then you can emit chi to his medicine, making it more potent. As long as the patient recovers, it doesn't matter who gets the credit. We Chi-Lel practitioners don't claim credit.
4. Why are some people effective in healing others but have a difficult time in healing their own illnesses?
There are two situations: One is that when we heal others, it is not the case that we can heal everyone. For example, if we attempt to heal ten people, maybe we can only heal three to five people, not everyone gets cured. That illustrates that your healing power is not necessarily effective on everyone. Another situation is that we have deep impressions of our own diseases and are used to them. When we become used to our illnesses, the chi will have a harder time penetrating them; our subconscious mind also plays a resistant role. That's why the ancient doctors say "doctors don't heal themselves." In other words, some can heal others but when it comes to their own illnesses, they are helpless. When you fa chi (emit chi) to yourself, you cannot just say "shan (disappear)" from your mouth only, you must use your mind also. The key to healing is that you must believe it with your heart. Usually the less medical knowledge a person has, the better the healing result; it is also very effective for those with superstitious belief. The maxim,"Believe something works and it will" can apply here. If you cannot get rid of your illness immediately, what should you do? You need to have confidence in Chi Lel, persist in working hard, forget your illness (avoid combining your mind with your illness). Then you will get well soon.

No Surgery! |

After I attended my first Chi-Lel workshop, I made my 100 challenge, convinced that Luke would somehow know if I missed a practice (I'm a guilt-driven Catholic). Then I attended a Chi-Lel retreat for fine tuning and forms correction. From there I felt renewed and rededicated.
In March I went for my annual (over 50 and silver) mammogram. I expected the routine response of all is well and we'll see you next year. What I got was a notice to schedule a visit with a surgeon for evaluation.
I called the folks at the cancer support group and scheduled an appointment with the surgeon they recommended. She ordered more tests, which I had, and then she gave me several options. I chose the option to wait two months, have the tests repeated and then the biopsy if it was still indicated. I wanted to use Chi Lel.
Fear is another great motivator for practice. I began to practice twice a day, once with the advanced tape and once with the beginner's tape. I have a busy work schedule and we took a vacation, but I continued to practice every day.
All too soon I was due for the repeat tests and the checkup. This time the surgeon said the area of concern was smaller and more symmetrical. No surgery!
Boy was I happy and relieved! I called Luke and together we rejoiced over the great news. We had just hung up when Luke called me back and asked me to continue my level of practice to ensure my complete recovery. How did he know I had cut back on my practicing already?
I have discovered the most effective motivators of all are faith and hope.

No More Herbs! |
John Christianson, Ojai, California |
On August 14th I completed my first gong. I can look back over the last few months and see that doing Chi Lel everyday has been quite helpful. First of all I have been able to wean myself from the strong Chinese tonic herbs I was taking to keep my energy up and to avoid debilitating and acute back pain.

John Christianson
|
At the age of 47, with my chronic back discomfort, I was pretty much resigned to having to take these herbs for the rest of my life. On occasion I had found it necessary to take such strong dosages for my back that I was getting very disconcerting side effects, including pain in my teeth and strange body sensations that may have been related to heart strain.
When I read in your literature that regularly doing Chi Lel could enable one to stop taking medicinal herbs, I was given hope. After regularly practicing Chi Lel I found out for myself that it is true. Within a couple of weeks of commencing to practice Chi Lel I was able to drop the herbs almost entirely, having only to use them very briefly on two or three occasions and in a reduced dosage, without side effects. I am very relieved to be off of the herbs and enhancing my own energy from within with Chi Lel. Additionally, I have found my Chi-Lel practice has greatly facilitated my energy level and emotional balance.
Chi Lel's support to my nervous system is so gentle and natural I can sometimes overlook it and take it for granted, but when I recall my inner states prior to doing Chi Lel and the inherent degree of stuckness and emotional over-reactiveness that previously seemed to be my constant companions, I can clearly see that regular Chi-Lel practice has been very helpful in ways that are very important to me. It is helping me to have "good days" with much more regularity.
